Wide pine boards, from matt to gloss

Lacquering and oiling · 2026

The sanding was already done here. These photos show what the lacquer itself does to a floor, which is the part people rarely see before it is finished.

The same floor straight after sanding and after lacquering: matt and dry on the left, deeper colour and sheen on the right

Before and after

Drag the handle to compare. You can also use the arrow keys.

A freshly sanded floor looks dry and pale. That is not the colour the floor will have, it is just bare timber with nothing on it. Only when the lacquer goes on does the colour come forward and the knots gain depth.

This is why we always show sample patches first. If all you have seen is the sanded floor, it is almost impossible to picture how dark it will go, and the difference between matt and gloss is bigger than people expect.
