A damaged patch rarely means the whole floor has to go.
Damage to an otherwise sound floor rarely means you need a new one. Usually it is enough to replace what is broken.
Older floors usually have more left in them than people think. We look at what can be saved before we recommend laying new, and give you both prices so you can decide for yourself.

We look at what can be saved
The damage is often local, even when it looks bad. We go over the floor and separate what has to come out from what only needs sanding.

Replacing single boards
Damaged boards come out and are replaced with timber that matches in species and grain direction. The whole surface is then sanded as one, so the join does not show.

Gaps and creaks
Gaps and joints are filled with wood filler in the right colour. Creaks almost always come from boards that have worked loose from the joists, and are fixed down before sanding.

You get both prices
We price both the repair and a new floor, so you can choose for yourself rather than take our word for what is worth doing.

Questions we get often
Can a single damaged board be replaced without it showing?
Usually yes, if the species and grain direction match. We sand the whole surface as one afterwards, so the new timber gets the same finish as the rest. On a floor with strong patina, the colour difference can take a while to even out.
What do you do about creaking?
Creaking almost always comes from boards that have worked loose from the joists underneath. We find the loose points and fix them down before sanding, so the fixings disappear into the finished surface.
Do you work on old floors in period buildings?
Yes, it is a large part of what we do. Original floors in older buildings often have more left in them than people think, even when they look hopeless under old vinyl and adhesive.
