Pine floor saved during a full renovation

With the walls stripped back to brick, the floor was one most people would have skipped: black with old adhesive and paint. There was still enough timber underneath.

Under a covering that had been down for decades were the original boards. That is worth measuring before you decide: if the floor has enough wear layer left, sanding is both cheaper and better looking than laying new.
Here there was plenty of margin. We sanded off the adhesive and paint residue, filled the gaps, and left the floor bare until the rest of the renovation was finished, so it would not be damaged by the work still to come.
